The Hero's Journey® through the Chakras

What is my purpose? Asking this question reveals something about our selves. It tells us that our spirit is looking for direction. What ever we focus on will expand. Our spirit follows along behind and pours itself into, wherever, whomever and whatever we give the bulk of our attention to.

We think our spirit is crying out to be free. The problem for us in this day and age is that our spirit is in fact free. It’s so free it’s out there all over the place. It’s everywhere else but in our bodies and in present time. It’s unsupervised and getting into all sorts of mischief because we lack awareness. We lack awareness of our spirit. If our spirit lacks direction, we need spiritual direction.

The Chakra system is an ancient model that represents seven different centres of energy or power. We can use these “power points” to focus, define and gain access to both our personal missions and spiritual purpose here on earth. We can use the chakras to switch on our spiritual power.

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning disc. The chakra system consists of seven 'disks' that correspond to physical locations within the body. According to the Hindu mystics, each chakra also represents a different quality of power that resonates at emotional, mental and spiritual levels. 

The chakras are similar to seven warehouses or data banks in that they register life’s events. The chakras record the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual information and experiences, from the exchange between friends, to our response at the loss of a partner. 

Each experience is recorded within its related chakra, from the time we are in utero, where we inherit and carry the genes of our family’s physical strengths and weaknesses, and onto developing our own qualities throughout the whole of life, until death.

Not only do we find that the chakras correspond to our biology. From a soul perspective, they represent various stages of emotional and mental growth, and the development of consciousness. The chakra system provides a map for our journey of self-understanding. It can be used to increase ego awareness and provides integration for the Self.

The chakras are vertically aligned, running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. At each stage or chakra, we gain a more refined understanding of personal and spiritual power, since each chakra from a spiritually symbolic perspective, represents universal challenges common to all human beings. As we master the challenges within each chakra, we empower ourselves and gain self-knowledge that is integrated into our spirit, advancing us along the path toward a greater awareness of our True Self.

The journey through the chakra system represents the classic Hero’s Journey ®.  It represents our need to liberate our spirit on its accent towards greater consciousness, and the ability to manifest all that we can be. This suggests that if we compare the chakra system to a ladder, we ascend in consciousness as we gradually master the pull of the physical world, thereby liberating our spirit.

We can use the chakra system to access grace, empowerment and inspiration. This movement of energy runs down through the chakras of the human energy system. We can use it consciously to manifest our potential in the physical world. 

Understanding the seven chakras of the human energy system, and the quality of power associated with each chakra centre, means we can learn more about what we are really here for.

Ultimately, we awaken our spirit to ways we can fulfil our potential both personally and globally. The chakra system is available for us to use as a representation of our journey towards a greater understanding of the Self. We can use it to access personal and spiritual power. We can use the power of the chakras as a lens to help us see where, why and how we concentrate or focus our energy in order that we achieve the purpose for which we were born.
